relief effort update 11/14/2012

Our first load of equipment from Again Faster was delivered last Wednesday night. Ian and Mike ( owners of Oside and King of the beach) were there to help us unload and give us an overview of the situation. Oside CrossFit is on the mend but still without power. Between donations from Again faster and Rogue Fitness we will be able to bring Oside a long way back to full operational ability soon. Oside’s biggest need now is rubber flooring and a good cleaning.

CrossFit King of the Beach is totally wiped out. Between the flood and diesel fuel spill that gym will be out of operation for some time. The good news is they have a second location in Island Park and all donations are going to get that gym up and operational.

Concept 2 and Jim Phelps from CrossFixit equipment repair services will have KOB’s fleet of rowers restored to like new by then end of today.

Steve’s Club generously donated a huge box of Paleo kits to keep everyone fueled.

Another shipment of equipment is due in from Rogue Fitness in the next couple of days and will be distributed between Oside, KOB and CrossFit Volition.

We are still in need of cash donations to help purchase rubber flooring for these gyms. If you would like to help please  click on the link provided and donaate today.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to helping these guys get back on their feet.

a growing need

Our relief efforts have now grown to inlcude 3 CrossFit gyms damaged on Long Island by storm Sandy. Many individuals and several equipment companies have stepped up  to aid our community and we cannot thank them enough. However the scope of their needs are larger than any one company or individual can solve on their own.

So we are asking other equipment companies to please step in and help us out. Your company will recieve a big thank you on our site and Facebook page and the appreciation of the greater CrossFit community.

If you can help in any way please contact us at trainermerle@att.net

Storm Sandy relief effort update

So far we have identified 3 box’s located on Long island that need our help. CrossFit Oside, CrossFit King of the Beach and CrossFit Volition.  There were all pretty much beach front when the storm hit. We intend to do our best to help them all.

We are collection donations in Connecticut at CrossFit Relentless and CrossFit Milford for used equipment. Anything can help so please consider dropping off equipment by next Wednesday.

We are working with Concept 2, Again Faster, Life as Rx and other equipment suppliers to help these people regain their feet.

We are in need of money as well. To date we have collected a little over $500. We have a goal of collecting $25,000 by December 8th. Please donate if you can on the link below.

Please pass the word and do what you can to help our community.

Thank you all.

A call to action for a sister box

As all have you have heard Storm Sandy has devastated much of the northeast with New york and New Jersey bearing much of the brunt.

CrossFit gyms including our own have banded together to help the victims with food, clothing and cleaning supplies. It shows the character of our community I believe.

It has come to our attention that one of our own is now in need. Oside CrossFit (the owner is Ian Berger) in Long Island found themselves under 4 feet of water once Sandy was through. They lost almost everything. I am asking each and every box owner and athlete to consider donating something to help them get back on their feet.

It does not need to be new. I’m sure we all have a used  med ball, kettle bell, bar or plates that we could spare. We need to do this fast to help them get back on their feet and start CrossFitting again.  I proposed a 3 prong strategy.

1. every box owner in the tri state area that can help out please considering dropping off 1 or 2 box items. They can be dropped at CrossFit Milford or CrossFit Relentless. Let’s try to get this done by Wednesday of next week. I will collect everything and drive it to them.

2. We will put a donation link up on the Beast Facebook page and you can choose to donate via credit card so they can put the money where they see fit. We will leave the link up for 30 days and then give whatever we collect to them at the end.

3. Jason Leydon and I are already talking to CrossFit equipment suppliers about helping them out in some way.

I know you all have your own needs and pressures. As do we. Think about if this was your box and your immediate CrossFit community. Then give what you can.

Sincerely

Merle Mckenzie & Glenn Perra

2012 Beast of the East Men, Women and Team winners

The 2012 Beast of the East is officially over. Over the 3 day event athletes had stones,Olympic lifts, Muscle ups, 106 lb kettlebells and much much more thrown at them. At one point the dust from heavy so many heavy stones crashing over and over to the concrete floor made it look like a Roman era Gladiator arena. Epic battles to see who took first or second place we’re reminscent of an Ali vs Frasier match. Christy vs Gretchen, Daniel vs Christian and Shoreline CrossFit vs Bro’s and Ho’s.  In the end Bro’s and Ho’s, Christy Phillips and Daniel Tyminski were crowned the 2012 Beast of the East. This makes Boomsauce ( Daniel Tyminski) a 3 peat winner of the Beast. Congratulations to our winners.

Bro’s and Ho’s 1st place Team

Christy Phillips 1st place Women’s division

Daniel Tyminski 1st place Men’s division

movement standards

Starting this week we will be posting videos of most of the movement standards you can expect to see at the 2012 Beast of the East. We say “most” because some movements will be kept secret until the final wod and some movements need no explanation ( i.e double unders). Here is the first group of movements.  You can tell Jesse had little fun making these.
